The North Highland Way is a walking, horse riding and cycling route across the north coast of Scotland. It will be the only multi use route in Scotland. It all started at Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of the UK mainland. www.dunnethead.co.uk

Problems

No New Posts Problems

We had many problems with the Brough Bay Association... they chopped up seats, stole signage, dug up property which was not theirs and generally caused the Access Officer, the police and the Council a lot of difficulties. It became known locally as the Battle of Brough.

No New Posts In the beginning

The North Highland Way Monday, April 9, 2018 The North Highland Way The North Highland Way was first mooted by the Caithness Waybaggers in 1992 and has been talked about in tourism circles for many years. In 2013 the North Highland Way was launched with eight local businessmen. The number quickly grew to over 40, including Easyways (link to Easyways), a Falkirk based walking company who sponsored the waymarkers. The North Highland Way talked about by the Caithness Waybaggers took a different route from Dunbeath to the north coast and then to John o Groats. The dream is to create a way across the north of Scotland with the same facilities as the South West Path in the South West of England. It will not be a built path, but a way to go

No New Posts Cycling across the North of Scotland

Cycling across the North of Scotland Well, the base route of the North Highland Way// is in. We now need to start filling in the gaps. There is too much road work. The mountain bike possibilities are endless.. we just need someone to try out the actual route. We have asked the horsey folk to do the same. This is planned as a multi use route… “a way to go”. Some people say there is a way to go….there is, but there are many difficulties. I’m 63… it will not be finished in my lifetime! We are looking at something like the facilities on the South West path in England. To cycle in such country is just amazing. The views are spectacular, the wildlife second to none. The road cycle is just as stunning of course, but the mountain biking route would be a real challenge. The terrain could be described as “undulating”

* Linking up with the Santiago trail

If we had the money, we could set something up like the Santiago Trail... I visited the office of the St Jean Pied de Port high in the Pyrenees and the Pilgrims office.. They knew about the North Highland Way.
